Many patients recognize Dr. Shapiro from his private practice, as well as from his involvement in countless other Butler organizations. He began his career in the U.S Navy as a young man. Following his military service, he graduated from Seton Hill University and went on to obtain dual degrees from the Northern Illinois College of Optometry and the Chicago College of Optometry. Following his years in solo practice, he was an associate of Dr. Frank Genovese, ophthalmic surgeon.
He currently serves on the Board of the Butler Co. Chamber of Commerce, as past president, and has been a shaping hand in almost every facet of life in Butler. His community involvement has included serving on the board of directors for the Butler Co. YMCA, Catholic Social Services, Butler Co. Girl Scouts, Butler Co. Symphony, Butler Co. PARC, and the Butler Renaissance Commission, as well as having helped found the Chicora Nursing Facility, Butler Pony & Prep Baseball League, and the Butler 10K Run.
